I came across this very cool design. It's an emergency stretcher for ski hills that collapses into a back pack for easier portability and convenience. Its great because emergency paramedics could have this on them at all times without limiting their mobility when trying to reach the person in need of medical care. From what I've read about this item the stretcher stays completely rigid when it is opened up so that no matter what terrain you are traveling over the person lying on it won't move around.
this approach has potential for personal mobility in general actually, not just emergency aid.
