Canadians go beyond the beach in search of sustainability in the Caribbean (March 2011)
Canadians are huge fans of Caribbean beaches, with many going more than once a year. However, sustainable tourism is becoming more popular with Canadian visitors to the region. In Cuba, hundreds of Canadian tourists now arrive every year to live “a sustainable experience.” In February, Professor Ron Berazan, the coordinator of the Canadian organisation called The Urban Farmer, brought a group of its members to Cuba to share expertise with the locals on sustainable agriculture. “Mankind has spent too many years damaging nature, and its only way to survive is by protecting the environment,” he said.
