Vision Testing for Developing Countries

Near-Eye Tool for Refractive Assessment or NETRA is a vision testing device that was created by a team at the MIT media lab. Netra is a microlens array and pinholes which costs $2 and can be used in conjunction with IDEOS $80 Android smartphone. In order to do the exam the user clips the device onto the screen of the smartphone and looks through the lens they will see a red and green line which are parallel to each other. Using the keyboard they will move the lines till they overlap. The user will do this 8 times for each eye with the lines at different angles. This test takes about 2 minutes for each eye.
