This video shows the construction of Changsha's Ark Hotel - yes, all 15 storeys - being completed within six days. Although it may not be the most beautiful or complex building to construct, the fact that it's sound proof, thermal insulated, strong enough to withstand an earthquake with a magnitude of 9 or even just the mere speed of construction makes up for it.
The reason why it was possible to complete within such a short amount of time was because of the use of prefabricated modules. Pre making as many construction modules has limits but as the Ark Hotel showed, it not only decreased construction time, energy and labour costs, but also material and construction waste (the Ark Hotel only produced 1% construction waste!). Maybe this is something Toronto architectural firms and contractors should look into. Maybe then, we'll finally see some results in Toronto.
